The policy of requiring 100 followers has multiple effects on incentives felt by writers on the platform. I feel like a target such as number of minutes read would be better, or even a minimum amount of money earned before a payout happens.

In my opinion, a culture that values maximizing the amount of attention you can attract at all costs results in wasted time in the aggregate of all people.

Someday I'll come up with a good analogy with the culture of overproduction and overconsumption of low-quality goods in the real economy that has caused so many suboptimal results in the aggregate of the planet and the populations that inhabit it.
